ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS
Harold R. Evensky, CFP®, AIF® • Evensky & Katz
Mr. Evensky is the President of Evensky & Katz. Prior to forming his own company, he served as a Vice President of Investments with major investment banking firms. Mr. Evensky received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Cornell University. He has been a featured speaker on investment topics at numerous national and international conventions, including the AICPA, the ICFP, the IAFP, the College for Financial Planning, the American College, the American Society CLU and Chic and the AAII. Mr. Evensky has served as Chair of the TIAA-CREF Institute Advisory Board and is a member of the Financial Planning Association, the Academy of Financial Services, and the Association for Investment Management and Research and is an associate member of the American Bar Association. He is the past Chair of the International CFP® Council, the CFP® Board of Governors, the Board of Examiners and the Board of Appeals. He has served as the Chair of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Asia Financial Planning Journal, a columnist for Worth.com, the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Financial Planning, and he is currently a contributing writer for Financial Advisor Magazine. He has also served on the National Board of the IAFP and the Charles Schwab Institutional Advisory Board and Council. In 2002, Mr. Evensky’s paper entitled, “Changing Equity Premium Implications for Wealth Management Portfolio Design and Implementation,” was selected as the winner of the Journal of Financial Planning, Planning Techniques and Methods, “Call for Papers” competition. In 1999, 2000 & 2001, he was named by Accounting Today as one the profession’s most influential people. In 1999, he was awarded the Dow Jones Investment Advisor Portfolio Management Award for Lifetime Achievement. In January of 2001 he was listed by Financial Planning Magazine as one of five "Movers, Shakers and Decision Makers, The Most Influential People in the Financial Planning Profession." In March 2001, he was named one of the "25 Power Elite" in the financial services industry by Investment News. Mr. Evensky has been recognized by Worth as one of the, “Top 100 Wealth Managers” for five consecutive years. In 2006 he received the “Skip Viragh Award” for Industry Excellence. Mr. Evensky has participated as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the National Association of Security Dealers (NASD). He has been a principal in his own broker-dealer firm and held NASD General Securities Principal and Municipal Securities Principal licenses. Mr. Evensky is an internationally recognized speaker on investment and financial planning issues. In addition, he has written for and is quoted frequently in the national press, and is the author of Wealth Management, published by McGraw/Hill and co-editor of The Investment Think Tank, Theory, Strategy, and Practice for Advisers (Bloomberg) and Retirement Income Redesigned - Master Plans for Distribution (Bloomberg), which received the AXIOM business book of 2007 silver medal in the category retirement planning.
Elizabeth Jetton, CFP® • RTD Financial Advisors
Elizabeth Jetton is passionate about the financial planning profession and the difference that financial life planning can make in people’s lives. In 2007 she and her husband, Michael J. Smith, CFP®, merged their planning firm with RTD Financial Advisors, a nationally prominent independent financial life planning firm that specializes in helping people prosper and thrive through a holistic process that integrates the best of quantitative and qualitative value. Elizabeth is involved in strategy, financial planning process and meeting with clients; Elizabeth and Roy Diliberto, founder of RTD, deliver workshops on Building a Successful Financial Life Planning Practice. Prior to joining RTD Financial, Elizabeth was a Strategic Advisor and director of the financial planning department with a national planning firm with nine offices throughout the country. She developed her coaching, training and systems expertise in this environment. For the ten years prior, she and her husband Michael had their own successful firm, Financial Vision Advisors. Elizabeth focuses on helping other advisors and firms to be their best through one-on-one coaching to individual financial planners, workshops and presentations and consulting to financial planning firms. She has worked in the financial services industry since 1981 and became a Certified Financial Planner® professional in 1991. Elizabeth had the honor to serve as the President of the Financial Planning Association in 2004 and Chair of the FPA in 2005. She continues to be active in the profession through FPA and through various study groups and think tanks. One of her great joys has been serving as a mentor for the FPA-sponsored Residency Program for newly minted CFP licensees since 2001. Elizabeth has been listed as a “Mover & Shaker in the profession” by Financial Planning Magazine, January 2005; “Top Ten Atlanta Financial Planning Firms”, 1996, by the Atlanta Business Chronicle; and “The 150 Best Financial Advisers for Doctors” for the past four annual listings by Medical Economics magazine. Michael E. In addition, he is the publisher of the e-newsletter The Kitces Report and the blog Nerd’s Eye View through his website Kitces.com, dedicated to advancing knowledge in financial planning. Ronald A. Shuffield • Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell, Inc.
Ron Shuffield is president of Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell Realtors® (EWM), a 45 year-old general real estate brokerage firm with 11 offices in South Florida. As a part-owner of EWM since 1984, he sold EWM in 2003 to HomeServices of America, Inc., an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway. HomeServices is ranked as the second largest real estate company in America operating 20 local real estate brands from coast-to-coast with annual sales of over $60 billion. EWM has 800 associates and staff who are involved in almost $2.0 billion of South Florida real estate service transactions annually. EWM is the parent company of two subsidiary companies, EWM Title and EWM Insurance. Additionally, EWM is affiliated with HomeServices Lending, LLC, which is a joint venture with Wells Fargo Bank, operating as the national mortgage arm of HomeServices of America. In addition to being responsible for the day-to-day operations of EWM, Ron is also involved in the South Florida civic community. He has been a member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce since 1977 and he currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables since 1984 and he has also served as chairman of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and the Coral Gables Community Foundation. In 1996, he was the recipient of the Robert B. Knight Outstanding Citizen Award for his involvement in the Coral Gables Community. He was also honored in 2003 as an inductee into the South Florida Business Hall of Fame by The Florida Council on Economic Education. Ron serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Baptist Health South Florida, where he also serves as a board member of Doctors Hospital, Baptist Outpatient Services and Baptist Health Enterprises. Some of his other responsibilities focus on Florida International University, where he led his college fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta, to construct the first fraternity house on campus in 2001. He also serves FIU as a member of the board of directors of The FIU Foundation; and he is a past board member of the Educational Foundation of the Realtor® Association of Greater Miami and the Beaches (RAMB), which established the Jerome Bain Real Estate Institute at FIU in the mid-90’s. Ron is a 1973 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in business administration; and he has also been a member of the University Baptist Church in Coral Gables since 1976, where he is a past chairman of Deacons. He and his wife, Anita, live in Pinecrest and they have three children: Melissa, Allison and Scott. |
